Well, about two months ago my computer just suddenly gave me nothing but a blank screen. I had no choice but to fix it. Not being very knowledgeable about computers, I have to rely on either tech support at work or at Dell. The work people will give me advice about my home computer but--you know, don't really want to come over for the evening. So I'm pretty much stuck with Dell. After completely re-installing Windows XP, all was well for a while. I can't even remember the symptoms of the second problem, but again turned to Dell. Now it's pretty much OK except that I suddenly am unable to access secure screens, like the Hotmail account I use for messages for my rental house, like Amazon sales, etc.--in other words, a lot of important stuff. Dell's folks in Hyderabad are now telling me--when they can talk around the static--that I probably need to reinstall Windows yet again.

I think I'll ask advice from the folks at work, but I'd appreciate any words of wisdom from any of you. Is it worth it, or will the problems come back? I wonder if there could be some kind of undetectable virus in the files we have saved on disk. We check them with Norton which we keep updated, and it says they're clean, but I just wonder if something might still be be there.

I'm really feeling very much at the mercy of the corporate world, as usual.

I feel your pain!!

I have run my virus scan twice, installed two spybot programs and run them 2X a day, and am still having my problems. (kicks computer)

It's not fair, is it! (passes the chocolate)

do you scan with adaware? maybe you're clogged up with spyware and stuff? i doubt that reinstalling windows, again, is really the answer though. :( if i could see the computer and exactly what's going on i could prolly fix it. too bad i live in jersey :(( oh well i'd say try scanning with adaware and see if that helps. good luck:)

well, if it's your browser that's messing up you might be able to fix it by running the internet repair tool. i forget how to get into that from winXP (i usually do it for win98 customers), but it should be something like add/remove programs, probably in your control panel. if you click on IE in a list of programs and click add/remove you should get the option to "repair internet explorer". takes a minute or two, and then you restart. it shouldn't hurt anything, doesn't need backup CDs, and might help.

Re: three words

I know, I know. Next time I will. I've been working at a place that uses PC's and it was too hard to go back and forth. But next time I won't have that problem!
