While I'm recommending mindless past-times, let me suggest a viewing of Bubba Hotep. Elvis, the mummy, a great wheelchair and walker-using battle involving in a nursing home...and Ossie Davis. If it doesn't make you merry, nothing will. Regardless of what you're celebrating.

yes!

BHT (the movie, not the food additive) is fantastic, in both senses of the word! I saw it at an SF con 2 or 3 years ago--it was great! With JFK, too! Kinda, anyway (cryptic? see it & find out what I mean!).

I really wanted to like this movie, but maybe I just wasn't it the mood for it or something. I thought "Bruce Campbell, Ossie Davis, wacky mummy antics, Elvis? I'm there!" But it didn't work for me. Oh well!

I thought Campbell's Elvis voice was perfect--but I can also understand not liking it. Kind of an anchovy movie, really.

If you ever get the chance to hear Bruce Campbell give a "talk" on independent film-making, go! He is absolutely hi-larious! He lives in our part of the state and came to our town's annual film festival to talk about his movies. There were a lot of film majors in the audience (held at the local university) and his advice to them was very practical and could have been a comedy routine. Have you seen any of his earlier movies (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, etc.) or his tv series "The Adventures of Brisco County JR."?

I didn't realize he was Brisco County--love it! But haven't seen the others. I'll look for them next time I'm in a big city. Thanks.

His version of Elvis was perfect.
