Loved the video! Of course, it brings up my recurrent problem with religion (except perhaps Buddhism, which I except here not because of you, but because I can't think of any example of its misuse) and that is the misuse to promote hatred and violence. The mystics always caution against entering spiritual practices before one is prepared for them because the nearness to the transcendent God can cause craziness. Perhaps that is what we Christians have done with focusing on the "Buddy Jesus" to the exclusion of the transcendent other. We have domesticated the Holy One into a tool of our own dark sides.

Oh, Buddhists can be just like everybody else. Zen monks and Zen thinking contributed greatly to Japanese militarism and nationalism during WWII, Buddhists and Taoists in early China were forever taking the side of one emperor or another. And you can see some excellent online trolling, flaming, and general snarking at [livejournal.com profile] buddhists And taking religion to the dark side, as you say. There's less of it on a national level now, thank goodness, but it's a possibility for any belief.
