Shoney's and others hire people to go there and eat like regular customers but then report on the cleanliness, service, etc. "Spies" get reimbursed for their meals, but after a while, even free food at Shoney's was not something I wanted to eat...back in my single-mom-of-young-kids days, it was great for a while. My kids liked the strawberry pie a lot.
