Day Four: Seven (semi)interesting things you've pondered or thought about recently.

1. How is communication possible between groups of people who have true disagreements over fundamental values? Could I ever have a reasonable conversation with a Tea Party person on politics?
2. I wish everyone with an income over 100K had to assist one other person on foodstamps.
3. Do cats really ever meow at other cats (not growl, yowl, or hiss)--or is that just for humans?
4. And what is the correct amount of cats per square foot of any given home?
5. Two spaces or one? (Typography, not cats)
6. California or French red wine?
7. Could Pharaoh Sanders be any better? ("The Creator Has a Master Plan">

Always try for polite! Just wondering about the level of real communication. Can we ever really get through to each other? Or are we coming from such very different basic value systems that we're always skew lines?

Ive got a few relatives, inlaws, complicated family connections (like my son's bio family on the female side), and friends who are conservatives. Bright people all, but we are fundamentally different.

Every presidential election, there is a truce, where we don't discuss politics, though the Obama election caused some hot moments, and the hottest moment was when one person went to picket for Prop 8. A lot of the younger generation (and my spouse) didn't want to speak to her ever again, but we worked around it.

I'm lucky (or not) that my family and most of my friends all share political values, and in class, try to keep that side of things neutral. I agree that if anything else is in play, best to keep politics out of it!
