The magic of preparation must have paid off, because we made it through the night with no power outage. However, the high has been only barely above freezing, so there's still a lot of ice on branches and power lines, and lots of chances for them both to fall. But now I have batteries!

And even more exciting, Mop has a litterbox! At the beach she's an inside cat, so she's used to pine litter, but at home, she has a cat door and much prefers to go outside. But when we got up yesterday morning, the snow was already about 3 inches deep, and she spent a lot of time sitting and looking out the cat door but not actually going outside (I did see one little trail of paw tracks from the door, so guess she made it once). Today, more of the same. We made it out to the store and got her favorite litter and a new box, and no sooner had I set it up than she hopped right in and pooped! Very funny--usually she just inspects it and uses it much later, but I guess she was getting desperate.

And my yoga studio will open for a couple of hours, so I can catch a class with my favorite of all teachers. Getting a little tire of the house already--I don't see how you folks who have this all the time can stand it. Oh yeah--snow plows and salt! You aren't stuck inside once a flake falls.

I think you must have sent your ice storm here. It's not terrible, but school closed early and we all put ice-skates on our tires and skated out. :D

Anyhow, glad you have batteries! My mother hasn't complained about the weather, though I know SC is a big enough state.

So funny you put the cat story behind a cut. Probably for the "poop" part. I don't blame her one little bit for holding it til the litter arrived!

How does one prepare? I have never seen snow fall, much less experienced cold that you have to prepare for.

Oh, my previous entry was about being afraid the ice would destroy power lines and we'd be without electricity, so I was gathering up flashlights and lanterns and things. You must live even farther south than I do--we see snow only very occasionally! Ice is much worse, though. Very heavy and destructive. Fortunately we have many winters without either, but the last couple of years have been hard.

Ah yeah I must of missed it; I've been away from LJ for about a month, if not longer, and was trying to catch up. I live in South Florida, so yeah... no snow... except for once in the 1960s, I think.

Sigh. A very lovely part of the world--the way humanity was meant to live, in my opinion.
