From a note my husband sent to one of his students today:


"There was no "notice" that there was no class today. It's just that yesterday was the last day of the quarter.

Hang in there and thanks for the paper."

Yeah, I told Bill he should call all 50 people in the class to tell that that it had ended. He did think he needed to tell this guy when to come to the final exam, though, which I thought was kind. And probably necessary--it's only on the syllabus in print and online and college calendar, same.

This story brought chuckles and then the recollection of an annual dream-bordering-on-nightmare of mine: heading off to take an exam for a class I never once attended. (But I certainly, in my dream, at least know that the term has ended!)

Somehow I doubt that student has those dreams...but I'm at end of term grading, which always causes me to have unfairly low opinions of student conscientiousness. I think it's only the good ones who fear something left undone!
