Diwali greetings to all who celebrate! More light!

I love all the celebrations of light as the year grows dark.

And I don't know what you say on Guy Fawkes day...

It's the Festival of Lights (http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/southasia/Culture/Festivals/Diwali.html) in India--a really pretty celebration with lots of candles.

Sounds good to me! I only got to celebrate it once, and that was in China 1994, so everyone was very much into it and into singing Rule Britannia, etc.--which I assume is not typical. They did have a Guy in a wheelbarrow and we did jump over the fire. Is all that still common?

OK! Remember the Guy!

I knew about "A penny for the Guy," but figured only kids with an actual Guy could say that.

Belatedly--on Guy Fawkes Day, you say, "Remember remember the fifth of November /
Gunpowder, treason and plot. / I see no reason why gunpowder, treason / Should ever be forgot." And then, if you have a "guy," you ask for a penny :-)

On the whole, I prefer Diwali, but maybe that's because I'm not British ;-)
