I'll be heading out to the SF Bay Area July 29-Aug. 9, so if any of you Californians are around for lunch on a weekday, I'd be happy to see you. I'll be in Berkeley, North Side, but can travel and wlll certainly be going to SF at least one day Evenings and weekends have to be with family--including a couple of birthday celebrations, one huge.
When I'm in packing at home and the low is 76 and the high is touching 100, consistently, it's hard to remember the kind of clothes I need to pack for much cooler days (like high in 50's). It's even hard to remember what goes with what, and which shoes I need. So I have a fleece jacket and a windbreaker, but no jeans and no dressy clothes for the big birthday--and only sandals and running shoes. Oh, well, maybe I'll buy some shoes there. I'll have to shop for the dressy clothes here in Chicago. Or maybe it doesnt have to be that dressy.
Chicago, on the other hand, is at the one time of year when I don't have to dress differently from the way I did at home. We're near the lake, and I love. We went down to the farmer's market in Lincoln Park, which has gotten huge and delicious, and bought a bagful of heirloom cucumbers and tomatoes, arugula, green beans, Japanese eggplant, and tart cherries (already had blueberries). Coming home, the bus was full of other farmer's market customers with bunches of flowers and bags of onions and peaches and garlic scapes and fresh bread. The bus smelled (and sort of looked) like a high-end grocery.
