Since I may not get another chance to post for awhile:
Where are all the mosquitoes? I just sat out on my deck for the last hour as the sun went down. It's been warm and rainy and humid for the last couple of weeks, at least. But not a nip. I know most of you cannot imagine why I complain about this, but it is not natural. I've been in southern summers for more years than most of you combined, and I've always had to cover myself with repellent or hide inside at this time of year. I never thought I'd miss them.
But what about the birds that eat the mosquitoes, or even the other bugs that eat them? I hear the spray trucks go by late at night--what am I breathing? I know, avoid malaria (had it as a child), West Nile virus--but I'm definitely concerned that the cure is worse in this case.
Also no slugs.
What's next--no flies, no weeds, no moss? Maybe we could just move into the mall and be done with it.

The beach was also bite-free.
