A few of you will remember that I posted a month or so ago that I was having weird problems with the new electric plug and cable, which kept arcing, although I'd had the plug and cable rechecked, and replaced the cable box and TV.

I called a new electrician when I finally got back home, and indeed, as cleverly foreseen by OnM and Springheel Jack, the hot and neutral wires had been reversed when the new plug was installed. When the new electrician tested the plug, it showed up as OK for some reason, which it had done for the guy who installed it, but the new guy pursued it and found that the wires were wrong.

So now I have DVR and happiness in my bedroom (well, as much happiness as is possible with B. in Chicago, but electronic joys, anyway).

However, the demon of broken stuff has moved on to inhabit my car (I took it in to have the lock sensor replaced. When I picked it up, the AC wasn't working so I took it back. I picked it up again and this time it wouldn't go into reverse. I've warned it that it has exactly one more chance--if I take it back again after this, I'm not picking it up again).
