Today I took nine boxes of china and crystal out to the auction house--and can finally get back into the guest room/housesitter's room. That makes me very happy!

I also discovered that I am the half owner of a mink coat, which does not make me happy. The only way we can find to sell a mink coat is on eBay, a mystery I had not wanted to fathom, but guess I'll have to.

This and much, much more is from the estate of my elderly cousin but actually mostly from our greatgrandfather's house. I have been cleaning and packing and moving stuff since October, and got rid of 96 boxes of stuff at a Buddhist garage sale Saturday. Even more yay!

Now I have only 4 or 5 boxes to take elsewhere. And I'm happy at that prospect, but will be even happier when I've actually done it.

Do you think I'd get the same $$ as on eBay? We live in a small Southern city and I don't see a lot of fur being worn here. I guess I could also put it on Craigs in Chicago and New York and Boston...also, I have no idea how much to ask for a mink coat. Wish it had just been stolen, as we originally thought, so we could have gotten the insurance. But it turned up in storage.

OK, eBay might give you the most money. And there you can require a lower limit on the purchase. I have an old mink, and I have no idea how much I would want for it.

Have you thought of a pawn shop? The Christmas I went looking for a cheap computer (and found one in a pawn shop) there were a ton of mink coats for sale. Even in Memphis. My mom had one in North Carolina. It isn't (wasn't) about keeping warm; it's about status. It might be easier than eBay, but then I've never eBayed.

Maybe a pawn shop would work. That's an interesting idea. I can at least talk to them.

I seem to vaguely recall from when my grandmother passed away that some fur specialty stores do resale, or at least can point you to where you can get an appraisal.

That's a good idea. I think I saw one in Chicago--maybe I can take it there. If they take a commission, they might also advise me about a reasonable price to ask. Or maybe we should just keep it until next year when hopefully people will have more money for mink.
