Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about intensive Spanish programs in Guatemala, preferably Antigua or Quetzaltenango? I'm interested in programs that combine homestay, classes, and volunteer opportunities. I'm not so much concerned about price as about getting to know the culture and understand the people and country, but I would like to go to a program that delivers what it offers.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I'll be posting this in several communities also, so sorry if you see this question twice...or more.

I don't have any info -- but that does sound cool!

I actually found the one I had been searching for, so now need to see if I can afford it.

I think I would be happier in Guatemala than in SC at the end of January...

I have a (non-livejournal) friend who did some things like that, but she is in Cuba for a couple of weeks. If you are still interested, I can connect you two together when she gets back.

I can't help re courses but Antigua is lovely and would have more choice from what I saw when I went.

Thanks. I definitely want to go there for a visit if not to study.

Please contact my friend [livejournal.com profile] chachachana. I am fairly certain she will tell you NOT to take the program she did. She is also very knowledgeable about Nicaragua, in case that is of use to you.
