We're not sure of the exact date, but sometime in the middle of September, 1987, I finally went out on a real date with Mr. Bill, after many years of mildly flirtatious friendship when one or the other or both was married or otherwise occupied. And a year later we moved in together, so it's just about 20 years now that we've lived together (and been married a good bit of that). That's longer than I've lived with anyone else, including parents, children, and first husband, so a great big gold star (and lots more) to him for putting up with me for all this time.

Of course, maybe we should subtract the months when we're living in different states, but we're on the phone all the time and always headed back to the other one, never planning to stay away. Someday we'll solve the climate dilemma, but at least we've learned to get along.

Oh. I didn't think how that might seem to you and other people on my list. Take it as a sign that sometimes it takes a few tries to get it right, and the future has some really good stuff in store for you.

Please--no apologies! I am sincerely happy for you!
And actually, I'm pretty optimistic.

I love cool anniversaries!!! It was weird to me when I realized that I had lived longer with Darby then I had without him, but good weird. Many, many congrats!

If you want to borrow my parents' anniversary of Sept. 16th, you can. They would have been together 47 years that day.

I know that will be a hard day for your mom (and all of you). But I'm honored to share the time with them.
