We went to hear Li-Young Lee read tonight. He was wonderful! He read two that I especially like, one using a train as a kind of organizer-metaphor for time and life, and the other, really very beautiful, about how his wife goes to sleep when he talks to her (that made Bill smile)--images of her falling asleep interspersed with what he was saying about lovers as the source of time. But the poet himself is very sweet, very casual and off-hand, but said amazing things and spoke so clearly. I wish I could have taped him. He did not read in that fakey poetry-reading voice that I dislike, very much. I bought a book, but didn't stay to have it signed--we ran into some friends who wanted to have dinner at a nearby sushi place, and that was very nice, too.

Perfect poetry night--the first really warm spring night, with all the flowers blooming and all the young girls in flowery dresses.

I am so glad you posted those poem links. Today I purchased his Roses, and a book of conversations with him. I can't wait to dig in. He does seem wonderful and I am happy you enjoyed him.

One of his book of poems I saw but didn't purchase had a cd at the back of the book, with him reading.
