One day spring, one day winter, one day spring, one day winter. Can't get a steady run of anything down here. But so far the Japanese magnolias and the plum blossoms and camellias are holding up. Next in line is yellow jasmine and redbud (we used to call them Judas trees, not sure why). And hopefully no frost.

I'm really intrigued by the great discussion over at [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson's LJ. She links to her wonderful but painful Nebula -nominated story, "The evolution of trickster stories among the dogs of North Park after the Change," and goes on to take and respond to some very interesting comments about the world of the story and the morality, etc., of our own world that it reveals--our relationship, not just to animals, but to lots else. She is always a writer I admire greatly, but I especially like the risks she takes in doing something like this. Of course, she does seem to be up for taking risks, in many ways.
