jp_davis has a great story in Ideomancer: "Elohim", which I highly recommend, and carrie_ryan's novel, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, already has a placeholder page which is gorgeous (the next generation is not just coming along, but way out ahead)!!

I thought it was great in the first draft, but really excellent now. The Gullah is well done. And the end is very creepy.

Interesting that you should ask about my most recent story--I was just contemplating a post on bad writing (maybe it helps to see how it doesn't work!)

However, I did one before Christmas I liked a little better, so maybe I'll concentrate on that instead...it's about a werewolf in rehab.
