I have a cold and Bill has a cold--nasty vampiric colds that suck all our energy. All we can do is sit around and drink tea and grump. I went to yoga yesterday afternoon and was shaking all over in some of the asanas. At least I have S1 of Heroes still going, but I should be saving it for when the writer's strike really gets everything shut down.

What're you planning to watch in January, if there's really nothing on TV? (Even more nothing than now, that is.)

I only ever watch baseball and hockey on broadcast TV. Otherwise we watch DVDs pretty exclusively.

I'm liking the DVD route much better, too. A lot of news and sports get watched around here, but often not by me.

I stopped watching currently-running television after Angel was cancelled. Netflix will keep me busy as usual in the new year, and I can support the Hollywood writers with no loss!

Yeah, this will probably finish off my habits of being tied to a certain time each week.

Although I keep mulling the irony of the fact that it's the short change the writers got on DVDs that was part of the reason they knew they'd better gear up for the next wave of technology. And now we're all watching the DVDs while they strike...

I'll switch to movies instead of TV shows in support....

I guess the only show I watch that will be affected is 30 Rock. Other than that I mostly watch news, tennis, music, old movies, science and nature and arts documentaries, and some other stuff that won't be affected. Well, I occasionally watch a late-night talk show or SNL, but I won't miss those much.

Hope you feel better soon!

From: [identity profile] mamculuna.livejournal.com

I've heard 30 Rock is good. Will see if it's on DVD from last year. I don't watch all the time, but do like a nice drama or comedy now and then. DVD is really better for that, too.

Actually I've been watching more TV now than I can remember for quite a while back. Sunday is 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race and Desperate Housewives. Monday is Chuck and Journeyman, Tuesday is House and Reaper, Wednesday is Pushing Daisies, Thursday Smallville, Grey's Anatomy and Supernatural, Friday is DoND, NOW, and Bill Moyer's Journal.

Eeeesh!!! That's easily twice as many hours as the next closest season that I can remember, and if the strike would be settled soon, next year Lost will start up, and Battlestar Galactica.

However, to answer your question, the advantage of having a large video library is that I never have to ask myself that question.

:-)

Battlestar Galactica! I could go back and start that. At the time, was already watching too much. I also haven't gotten into Chuck, so maybe reruns on that will play.

Remember your great reviews of old movies. You do have a library!

I'm almost done the 3rd season of The Wire and I think s4 is supposed to be out soon. I've got a whole ton of shows in my dvd queue - Ugly Betty, Deadwood, s2 of Rome, s2 of Supernatural - so I'm somewhat guiltily looking forward to having a chance to catch up. Also if I don't get it for Xmas I'm buying myself Flight of the Conchords to watch over and over...

From: [identity profile] mamculuna.livejournal.com

Oh, yeah, The Wire! Need to put that on my list. In fact, your list is almost my list, but never got into Supernatural. [heads off to queue]

I'm not sure what I'll watch if the writers' strike is still on...right now I'm watching Chuck and Reaper and Heroes and Bones from the US TV networks; Blood Ties is a Canadian made show on an American cable network, so I'm not sure if it's affected..
I'm waiting for BSG to start up again, if and when the strike ends, but I hear it's not scheduled to start until Spring! argh. Also waiting for the next Doctor Who season to start.
If all else fails, I have my DVDs..Beauty and the Beast, Roswell, As Time Goes By..all still in the shrink wrap! Might be time for a Farscape rewatch too.

From: [identity profile] mamculuna.livejournal.com

I need to try Reaper. And watched B and B years ago--maybe time for a rerun.

I've watch Farscape so spottily, I could handle a sustained DVD-athon and finally figure out all the plots. And critters.

From: [identity profile] maeve-rigan.livejournal.com

Reaper has been better than expected.
B&tB--season 3 coming on DVD in Feb. Visually, it's remarkably effective, esp. considering it was made in the 80s, and as the show continues & expands the underground world, that element just gets better. The plots...after BtVS, AtS, etc., you may find the complete lack of irony and/or self-awareness a little cloying. Apparently I'm a minority among B&tB fans in liking the "dark" season 3.
Guess it's no surprise that I'm a Buffy 6 fan too :-)

From: [identity profile] mamculuna.livejournal.com

One of my favorite writers, George R. R. Martin, wrote for B&B sometimes. And I liked S6 Buffy, too.

From: [identity profile] midnightsjane.livejournal.com

I love, love Farscape. John and Aeryn=my favourite OTP. But it definitely is one of the shows that must be watched from beginning to end to make sense of it all.

From: [identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com

Poor writers! I don't watch any TV at all, so there will be no changes.

From: [identity profile] mamculuna.livejournal.com

Wish I were still like that. Once I didn't even own one (when my children were little, fortunately for them). I don't watch much, but like a little fantasy/drama in the evening. Actually DVDs work better for me than the real showings--no commercials! Ready when I am!

From: [identity profile] arethusa2.livejournal.com

If the strike lasts to January we won't have Alan Ball's Trueblood. Darn!

But yes, I have years of the Sopranos, House, Bones, etc to catch up on.

Get well!

From: [identity profile] mamculuna.livejournal.com

Early Sopranos! Thanks. Been meaning to add that to queue. Although I remember watching something Soprano on DVD--still, think I'd remember if it were the first ones. Maybe I'm really remembering the reruns.
