Well, there was that one time we went together over the North Carolina state line to Calabash and almost got kicked out of two different places for talking about linguistics too loudly.

There was the time I took you to the Oskaloosa Book Barn, that huge quonset hut of a million library discards that you can buy for fifty cents each. It was so funny when the guy who runs it had to make 25 trips out to your car with huge grocery bags of books!

Remember when we sat out in the Bay and watched the sea lions? And then we saw that colony of sea otters?

The supper we had that night was absolutely perfect, too. You wouldn't think chocolate martinis and Thai food would mix, but it was.

And then we found that yarn shop that was having the going out of business sale!

Now that is a fine thing to see on the first day of return-to-diet week. Glad I'm broke, too...however, Christmas is coming!

I really enjoyed beachside yoga with you -- the dolphins leaping out in the ocean did disturb our meditation a bit, but in the best way!

My favorite memory of you is the summer we took that insane road trip from San Francisco to New York City. We rented something wildly impractical -- a convertible, wasn't it? -- and drove ridiculously long days. We did that silly tour of Americana and my all-time favorite stop is still the Corn Palace (http://www.cityofmitchell.org/palace/rent.htm) in Mitchell, South Dakota. I think of it -- and you -- whenever I'm eating popcorn!
