I'm supposed to be up in the mountains, looking at the leaves, but the poor Mop is not well. She had diarrhea Thursday night, and then yesterday was doing the sick cat mope--just sitting around looking miserable. I took her to the vet in the late afternoon--no fever, no pain in gut, so they think it's just something she ate. But what? She will never touch anything but dry catfood and treats. She goes out, but just in my fenced yard, where no other cats come, usually, and she's had all the shots they give, anyway. Today she's eaten a few bites, but won't drink any water--and she's usually nuts, obsessive about water, wanting the faucet on whenever I go near it. She goes over to the water dish and looks at it, sniffs it, and then walks away. And she mostly sleeps--last night didn't get up from the chair (where we'd been watching S1 of Heroes) to come up to my bedroom until time to get up.

The vet gave me some anti-diarrhea stuff, metronidazole*--that seemed to have ended the first night anyway--and it doesn't seem to make her feel better aside from that. Guess nothing to do now but hope she feels better and then take her back to the vet Monday. I started just to leave her here overnight, since there's not much I can do for her anyway, but I knew I'd feel guilty the whole time I was gone. She seems to be very dependent on human company, but maybe it's just some kind of compulsive thing, like always wanting the faucet on. Anyway, I feel better about seeing what's happening with her.

Googled metronidazole and it turns out to be our old friend Flagyl in generic disguise. Who knew that was good for the stomach? I thought it was for other things...

Hope it clears up. A tasty toad could do bad things to a cat's digestion, and mice aren't that great for their diets, either, They can find the darndest things to eat!

I've had many cats that I would have been sure that was the issue--my one before this ate three squirrels and got very sick. But Mop is not a hunter, at all. Of course they can always have secret lives.

But the very good news is that she has now eaten a little and taken a few sips of water, so I'm expecting her to keep getting better. It's a relief! Thanks.

Aww, I hope she feels better soon! Lotus had a 24-hour stomach upset of some sort once, and my theory was that he had eaten a nasty little insect. It's not fun when they get all mopey though ... poor thing!

She doesn't hunt, but I have seen her nibble a moth, so that well may have been the cause. But she seems to be taking a little food and water now, so I'm hoping she'll get entirely well soon. Thanks.

Sick kitties are no fun! Sometimes, though sick kitties, like humans, just need time.

So sorry about Mop! Hope she is feeling better soon. I know exactly what you mean by the "sick cat mope"--ours have done it too. Mr. KF usually also hides under something.

When I first got her, she had to have a lot of dental surgery immediately, and I thought she had run away when we brought her home. 24 hours later she emerged from the very back of the closet.

But although she's not running around yet, she has taken a few bites and sips. I'm hoping it will soon be more.

Still wishing for the best for Kitten Junior. He sounds like he's having a very much worse experience.

Thanks! She ate a few kibbles and lapped a little water, so I'm hoping she's on an upward trend.

just got back from my weekend in the mountains (leave sgone) and saw that mop is doing better. I would've stayed home too if my kitty was sick. Glad it all worked out.

Thanks! I suspect her stomach was speaking for my inner mind, saying "Too much traveling! Stay put for a while!"
