As promised a couple of months back, here's a link to my story that was one of the winners for the state Arts Commission Fiction Project this year.

The online site (from the Charleston, SC Post and Courier) is not beautiful nor very easy to read--they did much better with the print version that came out Sept. 23.

Thanks! I'm really trying to write speculative fiction these days, and actually developed that as a set-up for a fantasy story but knew that the Arts Commission didn't go for genre very much, so...

That was wonderful. I felt the child's pain, and her stoicism, and the closed in-ness of her grandmother's world, and it seemed like she was speaking right to me.
