I don't know what this means, or whether anyone cares, but the Harry Potter franchise (all five movies so far) now has brought in a higher gross income than the total of all the Star Wars movies, and also than all the total of all the James Bond movies.

Magic is more profitable than technology?

Since I'm an extremely tedious person...

In real terms or in £ terms? Given that things like Goldfinger and the original Star Wars were made when money cost at least twice, maybe three or four times as much, and that all the Harry Potter films have been made since 2001, this may be a little distorted.

Good point. The news came from a friend who works for Warner, so I have no doubt it is distorted!

Movie tickets cost A LOT more now (so unless the figures were both adjusted into constant dollars, it doesn't mean much).

Also, Star Wars was the very first movie franchise to take merchandising seriously. Harry Potter no doubt learned a lot about selling swag from Mr. Lucas. Standing on the shoulders of giants and all, yeah.

I wouldn't put a price on magic, because joy and wishes don't have a price, but I hope so ;-)
