I too have just done a big clean-up--the house-sitter comes tomorrow. So now, reading left to right on my Tar-zhay fake blonde Mission-like desk-ette, we find:

a Brother all in one, still functioning so far
a stapler
two pens and a pencil
a cordless phone
the cradle for my Handspring PDA
speakers
an almost empty container of blank CD's
pix of long-ago parties to be scanned and emailed
collection of Rilke poetry (when were we talking about that?!?)
handful of paperclips
huge gawky monitor
A-a-a-nd: the removed explodable Sony battery from my Dell laptop, waiting to be properly disposed of

Now, on a typical day all that would be buried under a bunch of paper, receipts, CD's, teacups, napkins and empty plates that once held tuna sandwiches, books, what have you, but you were lucky, today. You can see bare wood. It doesn't happen very often.
