A belated Happy Easter to all who celebrate it--hope it was as lovely everywhere as it was here.
Actually, it was 93F here and promises to be the same today. I love hot weather, can't wait to wear sleeveless shirts and get the heavy sweaters off, but it's really a little early for this...
I spent the week at the beach with my younger son, my husband, my sister, and my brother-in-law. Each day got warmer and more beautiful. D (son) and I went for a long walk in the Santee Coastal Reserve, along a dike in a former rice field, where we saw various creatures, but especially a very large alligator. I'm used to them in places where there's some kind of barrier to protect me, but this one was just sitting on the other side of a very small canal, and then his tracks were on the other side. D wanted to throw a rock and make him look up for a picture, and I wanted to run. We did both, but he didn't wake up. I do have a picture but will have to post from my other computer (this one doesn't like the camera). Later in the week, more rice fields, this time kayaking with a large group down the Pee Dee River, and then through the canals. No alligators, but very beautiful. And quite a paddle--several miles, against the tide both ways.
My husband had brought Mop down, and she did not enjoy the ride. On the way home we decided to let her roam the car, thinking perhaps it was the carrier that she hated, but it turned out to be just as distasteful. Two hours of yowls, very indignant, unless she was sitting on my lap and trying to jump onto Bill. And she seems to shed even more when she's not happy, so I and the car looked to be covered by grey felt at the end. Next trip, back to the carrier.
The good news is that I seem to be locating potential house sitters so that she can stay here while I'm wandering around this sumer. I was definitely not looking forward to flying with her--even with drugs, I'm pretty sure she'd be letting the whole plane know how she felt. The other passengers would definitely be wishing for some nice quiet snakes by the end of that trip...

OMG--cat in car! One of my aunts had a cat who learned to enjoy car-rides and would sit on the passenger seat of her convertible! Our Kitten Jr. has no fear of entering cars--an open car door is an invitation to him, which we find a bit worrying. So SO took him for a ride the other day. He was fine until he realized the vehicle was actually moving! Then he ran around, tried to get under SO's feet, yowled. However, when the car came up the driveway, Kitten Jr. looked quite at ease, standing on back seat, front paws on the center console and looking out the windscreen. He hasn't had another chance at an open car door since, so we don't know if he's learned his lesson, or learned that he likes traveling!

Moving is what Mop hates, too--she gets especially upset then. I've had more than one cat who liked to ride, even sat up and looked out the window like a dog. Mop's a fine cat in many ways, but none of them are vehicular!
We've considered taking her for short rides that do not end at the vet's office, but I suspect that won't really help.

Have you noticed how much cats shed when they're in a vet's office? It's a fear reaction. Their hair follicles open for some reason and tons of fur is released!
