It would be nice to know the truth here since both sides are saying the complete opposite. Meanwhile the customer gets screwed.

Why do I have DSL? Because Time-Warner is unreliable, and it was the only cable game in town for too long.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is major trauma in the entertainment business next year, including in pay TV. The producers want to increase revenue. The actors, the writers, and everyone else involved wants more money. But the times mean that there are going to be fewer dollars spent on entertainment. There will be fewer subscribers for pay TV and those that remain are going to be more demanding.

Yep. I think ATT is coming into our area, but we have ComCast in Chicago and it also sucks, so I tend not to trust any of them.

Take note -- I do not have any pay television at all. As a matter of fact, my TV is about to become useless very shortly except as an accessory to a VCR. I got DSL because Time-Warner's Roadrunner went down once a week, and they blocked web sites without notifying their customers. We found this out when I got some stuff on dial-up that we could not get on the cable modem. We even proved it to their repair tech, which was a shock to him.
