Is this cheating? I've at least driven through all of the mainland lower 48 (and revisited 9 in the past week, on my trip to New England), but I've spent at least one night in all but Idaho, Alabama, and Maine (no way to make those pink, though):

I wish I could remember every state I've been to. But I honestly can't answer about some of them. It's possible, with all the road trips my family's taken, that I just forgot.

I've had family on both coasts for forty years, so I've driven across every east-west route, and then taken a couple of north south trips on each side of the country. For a long time, I hadn't been to Maine or Idaho, but got to those in the last ten years.

That's what a *huge* carbon footprint looks like! I hate to think how much I personally have contributed to global warming.

Wow, that's a lot of road trips! I think actually driving through anything definitely counts as visiting. If it weren't for the occasional hour in airports waiting for connector flights my map would be pretty grey!

but, really, couldn't they have made visited states some other colour? Seeing that map this close to an election made my heart skip a beat or three.Come to think of it, why is the major US liberal party the blue one anyway? Doesn't every place else do it the other way around?

What is it in Canada? Are liberals red there?

I agree--a solid red US is my worst nightmare. It almost happened in 1980, and bad things followed.

the Liberal Party is red here, just like the Labour Party in England.
I'm kind of surprised the US Republicans didn't redecorate during the McCarthy era, I would have thought the Socialist connection would bother them...not like it would ever confuse voters or anything but it dos seem a bit incongruous. I guess tradition won out.
