I think a lot of the people on my friends' list are Obama supporters, so I'm not filtering this. Apologies to those who aren't.
If you want to see Obama win, one thing you can do to help is to call potential voters in swing states. To do that, go to the Obama website and create an account, and then click on "Neighbor to Neighbor." It will let you sign up to make calls, and soon you'll get information on how to do it.
A lot of people feel shy about doing this. I can understand that! But I have to tell you that my experience in 2006 was very positive. At this point they're making calls just to ask who the person is supporting--not trying to talk them into anything. Once they have the list of Obama supporters, they'll ask us to recall and remind people of where their polling place is, etc. A few times, people said they didn't want to be called, but mostly people were very glad to hear from me. The website is well-designed--they give you a list of numbers and a "script"--suggested ideas of what to say. You just check off online to let them know who's positive and who's negative. I think it makes a huge difference, because the other candidates have computer calls. Several people I called mentioned that they were surprised to get a call from a live person, and I think it made a difference to them.
The only thing is that you have to consider your phone situation. If you call from your cell, and if you live in the east, you can call west after the calls are cheap. And you can always call on weekends--and that's when you're likely to catch people anyway. If you have cable phone, etc., you can call anytime!

It was about 1000x more pleasant than the please don't sign the anti-gay-marriage ballot initiative thing we did in the Spring. Possibly because it has a clear, for something message rather than an anti-one.
