I did something I hardly ever do, which was to put in an afternoon cooking just for me and Bill. And the menu sounds like it should take about 15 minutes: bread, soup, salad, wine. But it was more like three hours because I made roasted garlic-potato soup, which takes a few steps (cut up and roast the potatoes, onions, garlic--except don't cut up the garlic of course--then food process everything, then add a little butter-flour-milk roux-like substance), I made the bread (unhealthy multigrain--WW flour, oat bran, wheat bran, oats, corn meal, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds--but also milk, butter, egg, sugar, salt), I grew, picked, and washed the arugula (and made anchovy-garlic dressing, involving yet more egg, but at least olive oil), and I brought back the wine from our tasting trip in California at Christmas (a 2008 Preston Winery Carignane, from Dry Creek). All fun to cook (or open), yummy, and pretty deadly. But the recovery starts next week. And the hot oven and simmering soup were great on a cold (for us) day.

On, also butter and local honey for the very nice warm crusty bread.
