Happy Thanksgiving to all!

For the first time in a long time, I didn't cook at all on Thanksgiving. For the first time since we were in China, we went out for Thanksgiving, and for the first time ever, it was just me and Bill. Usually I have it with family of some sort. My sister and I had spent the last two weeks clearing out the apartment where my packrat elderly cousin had lived for the last 30 of her 88 years, and she and her husband had been staying with me and Bill. When the last box was carried out yesterday, they were ready to head for home, and we were ready to go out and let somebody else take care of us. So we went over to a buffet at an old hotel in Augusta, where I ate way more than I though a person could.

While I'm very thankful that we've emptied the apartment, most of the contents are now in boxes in my dining room waiting to go to a Buddhist yard sale, so I'm not quite finished yet. Still, the worst is over.

I'm thankful that I have lots of friends and family and look forward to seeing them all at some more restful time--and quite thankful for you, LJ friends, always there and fascinating, but never demanding or intruding.

I'm thankful that my cats are healthy and mostly polite, and that my computer is working.

I'm thankful that all this year's proddings and pokings and blood tests still show me well and probably staying that way.

I'm thankful for my teachers living and dead, and for the gifts of dharma.

I'm extremely thankful that politically we may have turned a corner in this country towards justice and equality, though economically we still have a ways to go.

And I'm very, very thankful that I found half a bottle of old Glenlivet in my cousin's cabinet.
