I'm really tired of all-Palin, all-the-time newspapers, TV, radio, and LJ. So I thought I'd mention a candidate I haven't heard anybody on the left mention in a while: Barack Obama. I should have posted it at the time, but it's still good now. The GOP seems to want to paint him as the great proponent of socialism (I'm not kidding--when wild pigs invaded our neighborhood, my Republican neighbor said, "Don't tell the Democrats, they'll want to give them foodstamps").
So I wanted to suggest that those of you who'd like to think about political ideas for a change take a look at the article in the NY Magazine last week about Obama's actual economic beliefs, which turn out to be closer to the center than maybe either side would like to admit. Being at the University of Chicago seems to have had an influence on him.
It's a long article, but reading it was a much more positive experience for me than watching Youtubes of conventions.
