Just finished reading The Crimson Petal and the White, which was a very fine book. IMO, Faber does a very good job of capturing a host of feminine POV's, which always surprises me. If you haven't read it--it's mostly the story of a prostitute in 1875, and her attempt to get out of the life by being kept by a married man, but that's really only a part of it--it's also about cleaniness, writing, dreaming, children, soap, advertising, religion, the afterlife, madness, the subtleties of class, lavender farming...quite a book.
ETA: I see it's going to be a TV miniseries in 2009, but since I'm not a member at IMBD, not sure where. Hope it's BBC.
