Good news for me today--our state's Arts Commission has a yearly fiction project (like a contest, but no first, second, third, etc), with prizes of $500, and one of my short stories got selected! Squees! My first pay for fiction, I think. The story is not fantasy, though I originally imagined it as the set-up for a longer fantasy. It will eventually be published in the Charleston newspaper and online, so I'll link when that happens.

Re: congratulations!

Thanks. Now I can't put it online, since it's theirs, and it probably won't come out until fall.

Having read one of your mysteries, I am stunned that publishers aren't flocking to your door..I really liked that book!

Thanks, and thanks for being such a great reader! I have to admit to not having tried very hard at getting published. I feel a longer post on that topic coming on, but basically I'm hoping this validation will poke me enough to make me get work on the publishing aspect. It's a job in itself...

But thanks again for your good thoughts.
