It was worse of all, of course, when I lived in the Midwest and it was winter. I found blankets for the kitties, then went out to my car and listened to the radio with the engine running and the heat going, waiting to hear any news about when the power would be restored.
Luckily, back then I had a girlfriend who had a four-wheel drive to come rescue me through the snow. She also had underground power cables running to her house, and she invited me over and we sat in the hottub in her enclosed porch and watched the blizzard outside while we drank Merlot.
