Leftovers rock. Especially when they are lamb and proseco.

However, one excellent Christmas event yesterday was the revival of our ancient tribal ritual: goo (aka Heavenly Hash). A dessert associated with our aunt from Kentucky, long gone, but the source of much sweet comfort and joy. This decadent dish involves marshmallows, pineapple, walnuts, maraschino cherries, and whipped cream. We haven't had it for many years, but my sister thought it was time. And she was right.

So many years ago, when I was a young thing fresh from my first* broken heart, I took the bus to the little town where the goo-making aunt lived, and she took me in and led me to her freezer full of frozen goo, also frozen Cokes on sticks (Coca-cola poured into waxed paper cups with stick stuck into them). She thought (o blessed thought) that what I needed was to gain weight! Wrong, I needed him to come back and love me, just love me, but thank the powers he didn't and I went on to real life. But still, goo saved me.

Wow! Good Aunt. I love that stuff. I just call it fruit salad, and the ingredients are a bit different. I am sure it's the stuff that has led many a kid to identify marshmallows as a fruit.

Hurrah for goo, now and then! [hugs]

Having just experienced the power of goo first hand, I can attest to its miracle. I'm still waiting for my frozen coke-on-a-stick, though.

If we can ever find some waxed paper cups, you'll get some!

I have to say, reading this over again, this was a really beautifully written post!

Thanks.

Goo is so inspiring--maybe it will happen again sometime when you're there!
