Ernesto is just a rainstorm now. and I wish it would stay that way. Unfortunately it'll probably get back up to tropical storm strength before coming ashore--still aimed right at my house (I'm a little north of Georgetown, about 60 miles north of Charleston, about 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach). Mostly they're calling for rain--lots of it, but that's not a problem right here. Winds could get up to 50 mph, though I doubt it will be that intense. Not much surge either--2-3 feet, probably not much worse than a full moon high tide. If it comes ashore later than 4 PM, the tide should be fairly low, but I still may move my car up the road. I'll definitely put up the kayaks and bring in all the bird feeders, wind chimes, rocking chairs, hammocks, etc. I have water and batteries and lanterns and candles and lots of food, but I doubt we'll lose power--Florida didn't. And, while I'm not a fan of storms, better to have it when we're here than when renters are.

The good news is that Bill is still coming tonight, so I won't be here by myself. That's really kind of him, especially since he doesn't love crowded houses and hot weather, which is what we'll have after the storm passes. However, probably my sister and her husband won't come until Friday, making one less day of full house.

Here's me and my kayak, in the local paper. I think the photographer was really looking for guys with big boats, but I was the only thing available. Looks a little like Christopher Robin in his later years.
