I actually made progress toward cleaning my office today--have lots of books back on shelves, lots of odd pieces of paper neatly filed away. Threw away several basketfuls of junk. Of course, no soon had I done all that than a friend who works for the local paper asked me to do a book review for her, and of course one of the things that had hit the round file was the guidelines she'd sent last fall.

Not really a problem--she asked me to help with this--but reminds me that I'm feeling doubtful about my ability to write a good review. The book is by Debra Dean, called Madonnas of Leningrad. Don't know her, but that means little. It seems to be an historical novel, judging by other people's reviews (which I will try hard to forget, now).

Suddenly feeling as if I have a paper due. Wait, no, I'm retired!
